Javier Estebecorena

Fashion Design Faculty

Javier is a fashion designer with over 25 years of experience in fashion, interdisciplinary design, and design education. He received international acclaim for his clothing brand HE (Hermanos Estebecorena, www.hermanosestebecorena.com), which operated globally for more than 17 years, offering innovative and functional designs. HE products were sold in prestigious European stores such as Le Bon Marché (Paris), North American retailers including Opening Ceremony (NYC and LA), and in the brand's own stores throughout South America.

His work at HE was widely featured in international design publications, including Wallpaper and Spruce magazines. He was also ranked among the 250 hottest designers by ID magazine. At HE, Javier led product design and development across all lines—including outerwear, shoes, bags, wallets, and underwear—managing everything from fabric selection to concept development, fashion shows, photo campaigns, and overseeing both online and brick-and-mortar marketing and retail operations.

Javier has received multiple awards, including first prizes in the Alpargatas Textiles Design Contest—which led to a position in the Trends Research department at one of South America's largest denim producers—and the SAGA Furs of Scandinavia Design Contest, which earned him a specialization in fur design at the SAGA Design Centre in Copenhagen.

He also founded and led HEDS (hedsweb.com), an interdisciplinary design studio focused on industrial, graphic, and fashion product development and production.

In parallel with his professional design work, Javier has over 25 years of academic experience, teaching design at various schools, colleges, and universities. He has also trained corporate executives in Design Thinking through in-house programs and Executive MBA courses, working with both public and private clients including Telecom, Unilever, and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Currently, Javier is working on Knitec (knitec.net), a functional men’s underwear brand with a technical approach, based in Vancouver and focused on the North American market.

His teaching philosophy integrates innovation with feasibility, blending the creativity of experimental design with the rigor of product development. By emphasizing collaboration and critical thinking, he guides students to articulate the conceptual foundations of their products and brands.

Javier holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design from the University of Buenos Aires—ranked 18th globally for arts and design—and graduated from a technical high school with a specialization in mechanical engineering.
