What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?
I am most proud to have worked on the first feature film at Rainmaker, Escape from Planet Earth, among all our other movies. It’s an amazing feeling to see the whole movie after so many months of working together with everyone.
What are your creative inspirations or influences? Who are your heroes?
My hero would have to be my dad. He is the one who encouraged me to draw when I was young, and we often watched old Disney movies on VHS together.
My creative inspirations are Dr. Seuss, Akira Toriyama and Walt Disney.
What do you enjoy the most about your career?
Despite the challenges and overtime, I truly enjoy the work that I do. By the end of it and seeing the full result, brings back the good memories of working hard with my teammates and being in a positive environment.
How did your education at LaSalle College Vancouver help prepare you for your career?
The instructors here are your role models and mentors, they are also part of this industry. My classmates were not only peers, but future potential co-workers. Learning to work together in a production helps you learn to communicate with different types of people.
What advice do you have for people beginning their careers in your profession?
Try to learn as much as you can and ask many questions. Always respect everyone you encounter because this industry is small, you might run into them again – I certainly have!
Your profession is constantly evolving, from the technology you use to new career opportunities that didn’t exist five years ago. What trends do you see on the horizon that will affect how you do your job or your profession at-large?
Not every company is the same, so adaptability is key, whether it’s new management, new pipeline or new software to work with. nCloth, Maya hair/ fur is pretty common, but there are a lot of companies out there with their own home-made software.
