Damien Stonick

Fashion Design Faculty

Damien holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science from the University of Michigan, and received her Masters of Design from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, with a focus on the development of resilient, regionally based systems through material practice.  She supports student material, design, and systems explorations through both course instruction and applied research facilitation.

Damien Stonick daylights as a researcher, facilitator, and instructor in design and fashion-oriented courses. She sunrises as a natural dye farmer, growing natural dyes on unceded Musqueam territory in Richmond, BC. She moonlights as a maker, with a particular delight in working with wool while both weaving, and most recently, knitting.  She would gladly declare herself as a maker of messes, and a finder outer of what happens when we do something weird.

Her current research includes the study of the Canadian Textile System, with an emphasis on understanding place-based design, creation, and collaboration. She is an alumnus of the Creative Climate Leadership network and was able to attend the inaugural Canadian event in 2022.
