Shelja Ahuja - Interior Design Faculty

Shelja Ahuja

Driven by client satisfaction and always ready to take on new challenges, Shelja is a responsive, innovative, and detailed individual. Recognized for her dedication to cultivating authentic professional relationships based on respect, trust, and confidence, she loves engaging with people to understand their requirements and bring their vision to life. Shelja has over four years’ experience managing commercial, healthcare, and retail projects inspired by different styles and cultures. She designs unique spaces that flawlessly fuse form and function. Originally from India, she completed her Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2017 from University School of Architecture and Planning, GGSIPU, New Delhi. From there, she moved on to practice in a locally recognized firm for two years where she worked on multiple commercial interior large scale projects, from design to execution, with overall management. Working with people from various backgrounds imparted her with dexterity, social cognizance, flawless communication, and endurance to handle the pressure.

To pursue her passion further in design, she immigrated to Canada in 2019 to earn a Master’s degree in Interior Design at University of Manitoba. With receiving numerous scholarships, she also assisted in teaching and grading the Environmental Technology course to first year Bachelor of Environmental Design students. With her ability to easily connect with students, great problem-solving skills, and her strong interest and love for teaching, she has now joined LaSalle College Vancouver as an Interior Design Instructor. She enjoys the challenge of teaching students academically but also helping them to thrive socially.

Since 2021, she is working full-time with Cutler Design Consulting Ltd, as an Intermediate Interior Designer where she has intensively worked on commercial, retail, and health + wellness projects. Her role and responsibilities include managing and working on all stages of the project from start to execution, spanning across conceptual, schematic, design development, permits and construction document phases along with coordinating tender and CA, along with mentoring and on-boarding process for new hires. Worked on code analysis, permit submissions and zoning requirements for tenant improvement projects under different jurisdictions across BC has imparted her with immense knowledge of the Canadian process of project execution. Currently, she is working towards getting her professional license.

On a personal front, she enjoys origami, being out in the nature, travelling and exploring different cultures and architectural styles.
