Valerie Romain - Media Arts Faculty

Valerie Romain

Valerie Romain has a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Washington State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing from Queen’s University, with additional studies at Douglas College in Arts Administration and Simon Fraser University in Education.

She has exhibited her artwork in the US and Canada and is now in her fifteenth year of her dream job: teaching post-secondary students. She believes that a solid foundation in traditional art skills better prepares digital artists for a well-rounded professional career.

She teaches Design & Colour Theory, Drawing & Perspective, History of Art, History of Design, and Digital Imaging.

In the past, she has taught drawing classes at Washington State University and the University College of the Fraser Valley, as well as art classes for adults with developmental disabilities.

Her lifelong love of art history has inspired her to travel around the world and bring that knowledge into the classroom.

She is also a member of the school's Library Committee and board member of the Gibsons Public Art Gallery on the Sunshine Coast.
