Five Designers, Five Stories: LaSalle College Vancouver Takes the Stage at Vancouver Fashion Week this Coming April
Vancouver Fashion Week: A Runway of Stories
Fashion is more than fabric and form; it’s storytelling in motion. At this season’s Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW), five emerging designers, students and alumni from LaSalle College Vancouver, are set to showcase their unique narratives, each woven into the very fabric of their collections. From deeply personal explorations of Japanese family heritage to bold critiques of generational politics, these collections offer more than aesthetic appeal, they invite conversation, challenge norms, and redefine what fashion can be.
As the second-largest fashion event in North America, VFW is more than just a runway show, it’s a launchpad for the next generation of designers. Bringing together over 50 designers from around the world, the event provides an international stage for innovative talent. For LaSalle College Vancouver, this moment marks a pivotal transition, moving students from learners to emerging designers ready to make their mark on the industry.
Each of the five designers brings a distinct voice to the stage. Their collections explore themes of legacy, redefined menswear, resilience, transformation, serpentine symbolism, and an eclectic fusion of colors, textures, and techniques. This diversity not only highlights their individual artistry but also reflects the evolving landscape of contemporary fashion.
Meet LaSalle College Vancouver’s Emerging Designers:
Keiya Nagai – Sentimental Records
Alumna Keiya Nagai is a Japanese Canadian artist with a passion for design and sustainability. Growing up amidst a kaleidoscope of cultures, Keiya infuses his work with a rich heritage, bringing a global sensibility to the fashion industry. His expansive approach to product ideation and market solutions pushes boundaries and fosters innovation.
His capstone collection, Sentimental Records, explores the deep curiosity surrounding family heritage and the concept of preserving heirlooms for future generations. In a world where globalization connects us but also distances us from our roots, Sentimental Records balances the importance of honoring tradition while adapting to an ever-evolving global landscape.

Daly Bouskill – Schism
Daly is a dynamic designer, stylist, and creative who blends technology with bold, playful concepts. Skilled in CLO 3D, their work fuses humor with eerie, thought-provoking elements, reinterpreting ideas in unexpected ways. Their collection, Schism, examines the widening divides in politics, gender, and culture through satirical design. By juxtaposing conservative motifs in women’s garments with liberal themes in menswear, Daly highlights the starkness of these divides and the complexities that lie beneath.

Dana Gutierrez – Tactile Journeys
Inspired by color as a powerful psychological tool to evoke positivity and self-expression, Fashion Design Alumna Dana designed Tactile Journeys, a menswear collection that challenges traditional menswear by blending the structure of classic tailoring with bold, unexpected elements. Dana is passionate about redefining fashion through sustainability and craftsmanship. With a strong focus on garment construction and production, she incorporates upcycling and natural fabrics to create designs that are not only meaningful but environmentally conscious.

Anahita Heydari – The Ouroboros
"Construction through destruction" is the driving force behind Anahita Heydari’s collection, The Ouroboros. Inspired by the ancient symbol of a serpent consuming its own tail, representing the eternal cycle of creation and destruction, Anahita, a fashion design student, weaves this philosophy into her designs. Her collection explores the idea that true growth and innovation emerge from dismantling the old to make way for the new. To her, clothing is an alter ego, a vessel of soul and energy, embodying both transformation and the unity of all things.

Mathew Benitez - Echo
Fashion Design Diploma student Mathew Benitez is a visionary designer with a strong foundation in conceptual design. He pushes the boundaries of fashion by intertwining vulnerability, strength, and authenticity in every collection. With Echo, he explores the profound journey of self-discovery, capturing the fragmented voices of identity, loss, and longing. Each piece reflects the delicate balance between fragility and resilience, embodying the chaos and beauty that emerge when we confront our deepest emotions.
