DesCan Presents the 2025 Jim Rimmer Scholarship Awards at LaSalle College Vancouver

LaSalle College Vancouver welcomes DesCan for the 2025 Jim Rimmer Scholarship Awards Ceremony, celebrating emerging designers who are making a meaningful impact through their work.

On November 20, LaSalle College Vancouver proudly welcomed guests to its new campus for the 2025 Jim Rimmer Scholarship Awards Ceremony in partnership with DesCan. The annual event celebrates emerging designers whose work contributes meaningfully to community programs, non-profit initiatives, and social or environmental causes.

The scholarship honors the legacy of the late Jim Rimmer, an acclaimed Vancouver-based typographer and designer whose career spanned more than five decades. Known for his craftsmanship, mentorship, and deep commitment to community, Rimmer inspired generations of designers to pair creative excellence with social purpose. The award continues that tradition by recognizing students who embody those same values.

This year’s ceremony featured a keynote address by Matt Heximer, a respected Vancouver designer and educator with over 30 years of experience in branding, storytelling, and typographic communication. Heximer spoke about the power of design as a storytelling tool and shared insights into his own conceptual and typographic practice.

“It was a pleasure to open the doors of our new campus to the local design community and host the Jim Rimmer Scholarship Awards in partnership with DesCan, recognizing students’ incredible creativity and fostering connections across the design community,” said Kiona Cai, Graphic Design Faculty Lead at LaSalle College Vancouver.

In addition to celebrating award recipients, the event offered LaSalle College Vancouver Graphic Design students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by volunteering at the ceremony, allowing them to connect with members of DesCan and engage with professionals from Vancouver’s design community.

LaSalle College Vancouver congratulates the 2025 recipients and looks forward to the continued contributions they will make in the design field!
