Michael Simons
Michael Simons, an award-winning creative director, whose portfolio includes magazines, books, campaigns, and both television and documentary projects.
His interactive documentary, “Welcome to Pine Point,” garnered over a dozen prestigious international awards, including 2 Webby Awards, and captivated audiences at numerous festivals and competitions worldwide.
While still a student at Emily Carr University, Michael assumed the role of creative director at Adbusters magazine. Notably, he collaborated with renowned shoe designer John Fluevog to produce the Blackspot Sneaker, recognized as one of the New York Times’ “Best Ideas.”
Michael has been awarded numerous international design, National Magazine, and Documentary awards from esteemed institutions such as Sheffield UK, IDFA Amsterdam, Banff World Media Festival, and the Tribeca Film Institute. He holds the distinction of being a Fellow of Sundance and The Tribeca Film Festival and has presented at SXSW.
He co-authored, “I Live Here," a four-volume work published by Random House NYC, hailed as a groundbreaking paper-documentary that featured on the L.A. Times best seller list. Additionally, he co-created “The Book of Darryl,” published
by MCD NYC, featuring over 100 illustrations accompanied by augmented reality-enhanced animation and audio.
His work has been showcased in visual exhibitions and featured in over 150 publications including The New York Times, Paris Review, Le Monde, The Globe and Mail, MIT, and Harvard. His work has also been featured on additional media platforms such as CNN and MTV, as well as in documentaries for BBC, PBS, and Dutch National Television.
Michael has spoken internationally on the confluence of art, design, and storytelling.
