Nazeem Junggee: RGD 2024 Social Good Design Award Winner
Congratulations to Nazeem Junggee, a standout student in our Bachelor of Applied Design in Graphic Design program, for earning the prestigious Social Good Design Award at the 2024 Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) Student Awards. Nazeem’s impactful project, The Gutting Truth: Ocean Plastic Pollution, uses striking visuals and messaging to address the critical issue of plastic waste in our oceans.
In addition to this award, Nazeem received honorable mentions in the Packaging Design and Brand Design categories for his innovative branding and design work on At Eight – Bits, Brews & Bites, a fictional arcade bar concept that merges nostalgia with a modern, sustainable edge.
Nazeem also earned recognition from the DesCan Salazar Award for his Oceana – Ocean Plastic Pollution Awareness Campaign, showcasing his ability to use design as a medium for advocacy and change.
Blending Innovation and Sustainability: Saiqa Shaikh's Design Journey
Saiqa Shaikh, a recent graduate from LaSalle College Vancouver’s Bachelor of Applied Design in Interior Design, has made waves in the design community as a finalist in the Liv Design Challenge, where she showcased her innovative and sustainable “Split Peak: Patio,” a 188 sq. ft. design that harmoniously blends Canadian landscapes with modern living. Her project, which features sustainable materials and adaptable elements, earned her 2nd place at IDS 2024 in Toronto. Saiqa also received the NEWH Bermanfalk scholarship for her impressive concept board for The Summit, a reception desk inspired by Vancouver's culture and geography. Her creativity and passion are setting her on a path to make a significant impact in the field of sustainable design.
Eduardo Ramos: CAFA NewGen Award Honoree
LCV Fashion Design Diploma graduate Eduardo Ramos made waves at the 2024 Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) by being named to the prestigious NewGen List. This recognition highlights Eduardo’s groundbreaking work as a couturier, blending Mexican heritage with modern Canadian influences.
Eduardo’s creations continue to redefine the fashion landscape, earning him a place among Canada’s most inspiring emerging designers. His success is a testament to the strong foundation and creative environment fostered at LCV.
Telio Impact Award for Sustainability: Alifa Fayas and Florence Duong
Our Fashion Design student and alumna stood out at the Telio Impact Awards for their dedication to sustainable fashion:
- Alifa Fayas wowed judges with her prototype garment made from orange peels, a stunning example of zero-waste design.
- Florence Duong turned fish skin waste into luxurious, sustainable leather, exemplifying innovation in circular design.
Florence also claimed victory in the LCI GSEC Global Student Entrepreneurship Contest, highlighting her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainable practices.
Daniela Montoro: Plan Your Space Award Winner
Bachelor of Applied Design in Interior Design student Daniela Montoro demonstrated her creativity and problem-solving skills through her award-winning project, The Anderson’s Residence. This recognition honors Daniela’s ability to create functional, beautiful spaces that leave a lasting impact.
Her advice to aspiring designers? “Stay curious, embrace emerging trends, and seek feedback to grow continuously.” Daniela’s journey inspires students to push boundaries and think outside the box.
Tiannin Chan: Olivia Quan Award for Audio Excellence
Congratulations to our Professional Recording Arts Diploma student Tiannin Chan, recipient of the 2024 Olivia Quan Award for Audio Excellence. This honor celebrates Tiannin’s outstanding achievements in audio engineering, guided by LCV instructor Michael Foster. Tiannin’s dedication and leadership have set a new standard of excellence for her peers.
Looking Ahead: A New Campus for a Bright Future
LaSalle College Vancouver is thrilled to announce the opening of a state-of-the-art creative campus in Fall 2025. Located next to the current campus, this 108,000-square-foot, seven-story facility will redefine education by blending architecture, technology, and art to foster innovation and collaboration.
